Arthur Radio Transmission #24 w/ UP DIED SOUND

“Heat lightning,” those soundless, electrified lines that sometimes fill the sky on hot summer nights, are actually an indication of a faraway storm which may or may not be moving your way. While the accompanying sound of thunder is too distant to hear, the unholy light show remains visible from rooftops for many miles, providing a dazzling and magnificent omen of the oncoming deluge.

This week on Arthur Radio, Brooklyn’s Up Died Sound creates the sonic inverse of this experience; eyes closed, we listen as warm cascades of sound fall around us, giving the impression that the storm is now here, and this time the lightning can be heard, but not seen…

Arthur Radio Voyage #15: Supermercado de Sueños

This week we arrived at Newtown Radio as sunset was descending over Bushwick, and a mysterious blue and purple mist had started to fill the neighborhood. Feeling inexplicably sleepy, we stuck a little mugwort under the studio’s couch cushions, sprawled out on the floor, and immediately began to dream our way into Arthur Radio Voyage #15. We found ourselves in a lucid haze, lost in some kind of other-worldly superstore. Dancing our way down endless aisles of multicolored light bulbs, muffled music blaring happily over a faraway PA system, we reveled in the realization that dream worlds can feel every bit as real as waking life…

Nice new seven-minute numbing rumbler number from Moon Duo, a new band featuring Ripley from the sainted Wooden Shjips on guitar and vocals, and Sanae Yamada on keys.

“Stumbling 22nd St” will appear on the band’s forthcoming “Escape” record (pictured above), out in February via the good people of Woodsist.

A previously released EP, Killing Time, is available direct from Sacred Bones Records.

The Moons are playing January 12, 2010 at Cafe Du Nord in San Francisco.
